Johann Schöner, Celestial globe

Zoom

Johann Schöner (1477-1547)
Celestial globe, Nuremberg, ca. 1533
London, Royal Astronomical Society (on deposit at the Science Museum, London, inv. 1910-249)

This is the oldest printed celestial globe we know of. The constellations are those known after Ptolemy, with their names in Latin, while the names of the individual stars are mostly in Arabic.
