The Antikythera mechanism
London, M.T. Wright

The original fragments of this mechanical device, discovered in the wreckage of a ship sailing from Rhodes that sank in about 70 B.C., are the oldest astronomical instrument to have come down to us from the ancient world. This model is a reconstruction of the highly complex structure of the instrument, which was designed both for calculation and demonstrative purposes.
