Lantern crane (final phase)

The animation shows the techniques employed in the project's final phase: the construction of the cone-shaped lantern spire and the placement of the sphere on top of the dome. The latter operation was extremely difficult owing to the size and weight of the sphere. It was performed by Verrocchio in 1472, in the presence of an exceptional witness: the young Leonardo da Vinci.
