LEONARDO DA VINCI - Automatic screw-threading machines - Ms. B (IFP), fol. 70v


The central iron rod is the one to be threaded. The two side screws are operated by a mechanism comprising a crank, a toothed wheel, and two pinions. The screws move the carriage bearing the die and at the same time rotate the central rod. Under the machine, Leonardo shows four gears for changing the thread pitch.
