With the condemnation of 1633, Galileo was subjected to a sort of house arrest. In July, as "guest" of Archbishop Ascanio Piccolomini in Siena, he showed the Moon through the telescope to several of the prelate's acquaintances, among them the philosopher Gallaccini.
