Large planetarium orrery, London, ca. 1765
Oxford, All Souls College (on deposit at the Museum of the History of Science, Oxford, inv. 39896)
This large planetarium orrery shows all the planets and their attendant moons known at the time. It is driven by a clockwork mechanism regulated by a pendulum situated beneath the base plate. The planets with their respective periods, the Moon, the four satellites of Jupiter and the five satellites of Saturn are fixed to the base plate. The Earth moves along a calendar scale.
