Working model after Francesco di Giorgio, Ms. 197.b.21 (BML), fol. 11v
The hoist on the ground raises the load up the crane shaft by means of ropes and pulleys. The load is then picked up by the crane, which deposits it in the required location. The crane is maneuvered by the vertical and horizontal screws on the circular platform atop the machine. The crane possesses a modest rotating capability. The device is significant for its mobility and because it performs functions that usually required two separate machines, a hoist and a crane.
