FRANCESCO DI GIORGIO - Constant-velocity watermill

Ms. Ashburnham 361 (BMLF), fol. 35r (detail)

A constant amount of water is raised by the bucket pump to an overhead container. Thus the water falls with constant flow onto the waterwheel through the spout, ensuring via gearing system a constant velocity of the grindstone.
