LEONARDO DA VINCI - Rotating joints

Leonardo proposes the two joints at the top as appropriate solutions for moving the two arms of a compass (both drawings) and moving cart axles (top right drawing only). The bottom drawing shows a joint that is "unable to turn on itself only because its male and corresponding female are square."
