Probably commissioned by Cosimo I, the four spheres show the motion of the planets: the Sun and Moon, the first sphere; Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, the second one; Mercury, the third; and Venus, the fourth sphere. The figures supporting the spheres are the work of the sculptor Valerio Cioli.
