[V.7B  Motions of consumption in the Earth's body]

According to Leonardo, water is the agent responsible for the incessant transformation of the Earth's surface, as demonstrated by the continuous changes in the beds and banks of rivers. Water is also responsible for changes in the inner structure of the Earth. For this reason Leonardo calls water "nature's vector". His studies on marine fossils and deluges also fall within the context of this vision of cosmological "consumption".
