In the Battle of Anghiari one of the horsemen, learning forward and covering his horse's head, appears superimposed upon it, creating the image of a centaur. Leonardo expresses in this way his conviction that war transforms man into a beast.

Leonardo deals with organic forms as malleable structures, which can be modeled endlessly. Organic life is characterized by coherent principles and functions, that account for the marked structural similarities between man and the animals.
