Interwoven forms

  [IV.4B  Interwoven forms]

Leonardo was fascinated by another matrix, that of interwoven or interlaced forms. He made continuous transitions between observation of interwoven forms in nature (botany, hair, muscles of the chest, water, etc.), technical applications (the interlacing of beams for architectural centering) and playful, symbolic elaborations (the so-called Vincian knots) or decorative ones (the interwoven branches of trees and plants in the Sala delle Asse).
