Galilean patent

In 1594, Galileo (1564-1642) obtained a patent for a water-lifting mechanism from the Senate of the Republic of Venice. Galileo described his invention as: "A very easy-to-use, inexpensive, and very convenient structure for lifting water and irrigating land; with the motion of a single horse, it will pour out its twenty scoops of water continuously."
