Equinoctial dial comprising an eight-sided brass base carrying a magnetic compass with silver windrose, a 90° arc with markings for each degree, an horary quadrant with astronomical or equal hours, and a tilting gnomon.
The quadrant moves along the graduated arc so that the instrument can be used at different latitudes. This universal instrument can be carried in a box that also contains a manuscript list of latitudes and longitudes of different localities in Europe and the Arab world. Equinoctial dials of this type were common in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Engraved with the name of the maker, Giovanni Savoi.
