"La mente di Leonardo" (The Mind of Leonardo) exhibition opened on March 27, 2006 at the Uffizi Gallery in the presence of Rocco Buttiglione, Minister of Cultural Assets and Activities, inaugurating the series of events entitled "The Universal Leonardo", which are part of the prestigious programme of the 28th Exhibition of Art, Science and Culture promoted by the European Council.
"The Mind of Leonardo", which will run from March 28, 2006 until January 7, 2007, is designed to convey an image of Leonardo's intellectual initiatives that will be easily accessible to all visitors and historically accurate. The exhibition will display exceptional documents and original works (St. Jerome from the Vatican Museums, the famous self-portrait from the Biblioteca Reale in Turin and the "exploded skull" of the Weimar Sheet, on display for the first time in Italy), drawings, paintings and manuscripts by Leonardo, works of contemporary artists and scientists, accompanied by innovative educational tools: high-definition reproductions and 3D animations, functioning models carefully constructed using historically accurate techniques and materials, digital stations giving access to interactive contents, virtual reconstructions of some of Leonardo's lost works and films which illustrate for the first time sensational new discoveries in his drawings and paintings.
