Description: |
On March 25, three new dissertations from the PhD course in the History of Science instituted and financed by the IMSS and the Universities of Florence, Pisa and Siena (www.dsds.unifi.it) were presented. The three doctorate degree candidates for the years of 2002-2004 and 2003-2005 discussed their works at the Galilean Tribune of the Museum of Natural History of Florence. Gabriele Coradeschi marked the importance of Tycho Brahe's short travel to Italy and his correspondence with Italian astronomers; Andrea Bernardoni contextualized the key-figure of Vannoccio Biringuccio within the technical and chemical disciplines of 15th-century Italy; Valentina Vaccari described the role of Joseph Priestley and the Lunar Society in the second half of 17th-century science. Further information on such PhD dissertations - including their abstracts - and on the research projects of the new students admitted to the PhD course in the History of Science will be available in the printed version of the Newsletter. |
