In May 2006, thanks to the Region of Tuscany, the library of the Institute and Museum of the History of Science received as a gift the historical-scientific part of the personal library of Leone Leoncini (1914-2002), well-known Florentine physician and passionate bibliophile, the son of Francesco Leoncini (1880-1953), who was a forensic physician as well and author of a report on Galileo ("Le reliquie di Galileo Galilei", in: Rivista di storia delle scienze mediche e naturali 25, (1943), pp. 1-47). The collection, kindly donated by Maddalena Leoncini, is made up of approximately 1,000 pamphlets, 300 monographs and 2 periodicals, "Lo sperimentale" and "L'imparziale". Apart from some eighteenth-century editions, most of the works, mainly dealing with medicine, agronomy and the natural sciences, date from the beginning of the nineteenth to the beginning of the twentieth centuries. The cataloguing of the collection is scheduled for 2007. |
