Ancient gardens from Babylon to Rome: Science, Art and Nature, 8 May - 28 October 2007

Area:
Museum
Start:
8 May 2007
End:
28 October 2007
Description:
This exhibition, at the Limonaia in Florence's Boboli Gardens, presents the typological evolution of the garden in the ancient world: from a place dedicated to pleasure and leisure to a place devoted to meditation, study and experimentation in the naturalist and technical spheres. Original archaeological findings from prestigious foreign museums as well as from Rome and the Vesuvian cities buried by the 79 A.D. eruption guide visitors through the exhibition: from Babylon to the Greek world, from Imperial Rome to the Pompeii gardens.
Working models and multimedia demonstrations illustrate the refined fountains that changed the face of buildings, gardens and cities. The exhibition's finale, outside the Limonaia, is the dramatic reconstruction (scale 1:1) of two Pompeii gardens.
