International Conference ''Seneca and the Natural Sciences''

Area:
Institute
Start:
14 November 2007
Description:
On November 14th the International Conference "Seneca e le Scienze Naturali" ("Seneca and the Natural Sciences") will take place at the Facoltą di Conservazione dei Beni Culturali of the University of Bologna in Ravenna. The conference is promoted by the University of Bologna, the Facoltą di Conservazione dei Beni Culturali of Bologna, the Fondazione Flaminia, the study centre "La Permanenza del Classico" and the IMSS.
Many eminent Italian and international scholars will take part in the conference, which will focus on the scientific dimension of Seneca's work, outlining its deep and long-lasting influence on the Western scientific tradition. The philological method and the linguistic studies performed to date can be used to support a new interdisciplinary research, which serves to properly allocate "Naturales Quaestiones" in the history of scientific thought.
Such research, which suggests the opening of philological studies to a different field, the history of science, is unprecedented and is therefore open to interesting and engaging points of perception.
