Conclusion of the European Project PENCIL

Description:	September 30th, 2007 saw the conclusion of the European Project PENCIL (Permanent EuropeaN resource Centre for Informal Learning) coordinated by Ecsite (the European Network of Science Centre and Museums) and EUN (European Schoolnet). The IMSS participated as a leader of one of its Pilot Projects entitled "On-line Access to History of Science Museum Objects", that aimed at developing educational multimedia applications of the objects preserved in the Museum, by using new technologies and having a particular focus on e-learning. Two applications were created within the project: "La vita e le opere di Galileo - Un'esplorazione virtuale tridimensionale" (http://brunelleschi.imss.fi.it/pencil/index.html), a virtual exploration of the life and works of Galileo Galilei, produced with the support of Percro Lab of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa, and "Il Microscopio di Galileo" (http://brunelleschi.imss.fi.it/esplora/microscopio/index.html). Moreover, the IMSS created an educational laboratory ("Galileo and Experimental Research") destined for the schools and focused on the research carried out by Galileo in the field of natural motion.
