Description: |
Under the supervision of Giorgio Strano, curator of the collections, the storage of the 1250 instruments on display on the first and second floor of the Institute and Museum of the History of Science was concluded successfully. This operation was indispensible to allow the company that will be carrying out the renovations free access to the Museum's floors. The moving of the instruments on the first floor (Medici Collection) was essentially carried on by Andrea Bernardoni, Iolanda Rolfo and Angela Saviori. The moving of the instruments on the second floor (Lorenese Collection) required the dismounting of several great apparatus by Giampaolo Curioni and Andrea Rabbi, together with the art-transport company Dafne. There are a few noticeable exceptions: Santucci's armillary sphere was moved to a restoration laboratory; the collection of terrestrial and celestial globes were transferred to the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, where it is still visible in a temporary exhibition organised by Filippo Camerota; part of the Medici's instruments were transferred to the exhibition "The Medici and Science" (Florence, Museo degli Argenti, May 15, 2008 - January 11, 2009); the collection of large 18th and 19th centuries telescopes is on display in a temporary exhibition at the IMSS' ground floor. |
