Considering last year's success, the Institute and Museum of the History of Science decided to participate again in the 2008 edition of "La Nuit des Musées", promoted by the French Ministry for Culture and Communication and this time as also part of the initiative called "Amico Museo", organized by Regione Toscana.
On May 17, the IMSS organised, during a special evening opening, a performance on the "Dialogo sopra i due massimi sistemi del mondo" ("The Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems") by Galileo Galilei. The three characters of the book, Simplicio, Salviati and Sagredo, dressed in period costumes, discussed Ptolemaic cosmology, Aristotelian physics and the Copernican theory.
The event also took place on May 22nd as part of the initiative "Genio Fiorentino 2008", promoted by the Provincia di Firenze.
