Thanks to the financial support of the Regione Toscana the four files of the "Magazzino universale, in cui si contiene un ammasso di notizie riguardanti la maggior parte delle scienze" (Universal Repository, which contain piles of news mostly regarding science) have been restored and can now be accessed by scholars. These files are from Giuseppe Pelli Bencivenni (1729-1808) who was the director of the Reale Galleria degli Uffizi from 1775 until 1793. These documents deal with a vast erudition, that have not yet been an object of study, but exemplify the encyclopedic culture of the author to pursue the most varied fields of study. The files, until now had not been accessible to scholars due to being severly damaged in the flood of 1966. The "Magazzino universale" is part of the Fabbroni collection entrusted to us in the trust of the Regione Toscana. Giovanni Fabbroni was the vice director and later director of the Reale Museo di Fisica e Storia Naturale di Firenze (from 1805 to 1807) and relative of Pelli Bencivenni. Thanks to the contribution of the Regione Toscana we expect that by the end 2009 the entire Fabbroni collection will be catalogued and the four files of the "Magazzino Universale" will be digitalized. |
