On April 4th, 2009 the exhibition "Galileo, the Medici & the Age of Astronomy" curated by Filippo Camerota, Mara Miniati and Giorgio Strano and sponsored by the Officine Panerai was inaugurated at the Franklin Institute of Philadelphia. This exhibition was created from the fusion of two exhibitions, "The Medici and Science. Instruments and Machines in the Grand-Ducal Collections" (http://brunelleschi.imss.fi.it/mediciscienze/indice.html) and "Galileo's Telescope: The Instrument that Changed the World" (http://brunelleschi.imss.fi.it/telescopiogalileo/indice.html) that opened in Florence in 2008 respectively at the Museo degli Argenti and at the Museum of the History of Science. More than 90 original instruments from the Medicean collection of the Institute and Museum of the History of Science are currently on display in Philadelphia. Amongst these is one of the only two remaining telescopes of Galileo.
