International Congress ''The Galileo Affair: A Historical, Philosophilcal and Theological Re-examination''

Description:	The Istituto Stensen of Florence organized an international conference under the title "The Galileo Affair: A Historical, Philosophical and Theological Re-examination" that took place in Florence from May 26th to May 30th. The conference was held on the occasion of the International year of Astronomy. The Institute and Museum of the History of Science was among the many prestigious institutions that participated in it. The congress aimed to retrace the fundamental stages in Galilean affair and to tackle the knotty issues come out over the course of time thanks to most recent scientific and historiographic research. The event was inaugurated in the Basilica of Santa Croce on May 26th at 5:00 pm by the "lectiones magistrales" of Paolo Rossi (Professor Emeritus at the University of Florence and member of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei) and Nicola Cabibbo (President of the Pontificia Accademia delle Scienze) in the presence of the President of the Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano. On the same day, the President also visited the exhibition "Galileo: Images of the Universe from Antiquity to the Telescope", curated by Paolo Galluzzi, director of the IMSS.
