Created under the Auspices of the Scientific Instrument Commission (SIC), the series "Scientific Instruments and Collections" is part of the "History of Science and Medicine Library" published by Brill. The series presents monographic studies about the history of scientific instruments, their makers and the collections which they have been part of. The first volume "European Collections of Scientific Instruments, 1550-1750" edited by Giorgio Strano, Stephen Johnston, Mara Miniati and Alison Morrison-Low presents a selection of studies that were presented at the 23rd SIC Conference held in 2004, dealing with the formation of the collections of the Mathematisch-Physikalische Salon, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen di Dresda and in general on the ways that European scientific instruments were collected. |
