Description: |
The Institute and Museum of the History of Science took part in the "The Art of Italian Expertise" exhibition, promoted by the Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri, the Ministero del Turismo and Regione Abruzzo on the occasion of last G8 Meeting in L'Aquila. The exhibition was hosted in the "Vincenzo Giudice" Officer School of the Guardia di Finanza of Coppito, close to L'Aquila. The IMSS lent out one of the only two remaining telescopes of Galileo which are both part of the Florentine museum's collections. Since March 13, 2009, Galileo's telescope has been displayed in the major exhibition "Galileo: Images of the Universe from Antiquity to the Telescope" being held at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence until August 30, 2009. The precious instrument left Palazzo Strozzi for only a few days for a special viewing in L'Aquila during the G8 Meeting, together with a new satellite prototype developed by the Esa/Telespazio Galileo Project and a video on the activities of the Space Centre in Fucino, devoted to in-orbit satellite control and telecommunication systems. The original instrument was replaced with a replica after the G8 Meeting for the remainder of the exhibition. |
