Thanks to the financial support of the Regione Toscana the four files of Giuseppe Pelli Bencivenni's "Magazzino universale, in cui si contiene un ammasso di notizie riguardanti la maggior parte delle scienze" (Universal Repository, which contains piles of news regarding many branches of science) have been catalogued. Giuseppe Pelli Bencivenni (1729-1808) was the director of the Reale Galleria degli Uffizi from 1775 until 1793. The "Magazzino universale" is a very erudite work, that have not yet been an object of study, and exemplifies the encyclopedic culture of the author to pursue the most varied fields of study. The "Magazzino universale" is part of the Fabbroni collection entrusted to the Institute and Museum of the History of Science by the Regione Toscana. Giovanni Fabbroni was the vice director and later director of the Reale Museo di Fisica e Storia Naturale in Florence (from 1805 to 1807) and a relative of Pelli Bencivenni. The files of the "Magazzino universale" have been recentely restored - as reported in the December 2008/January 2009 edition of the Nuncius Newsletter - and are now catalogued and consultable via the library's online catalogue using traditional search methods. From the OPAC entry page, clicking on "Magazzino universale di G. Pelli Bencivenni", it is possible to access a list in short format. Thanks to the contribution of the Regione Toscana the four files of the "Magazzino Universale" will be digitalized in the next year. |
