Area:
Library
Start:

End:

Description:
In the past few days the "Galileo's Library" has been included in the project "Philosophical Libraries", carried out by the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa and dedicated to the private libraries of philosophers, scientists and scholars in modern and contemporary ages. As many may already know, "Galileo's Library" includes more than 500 works which the Galilean scholar Antonio Favaro identified as belonging to the private library of the great scientist (see A. Favaro, "La libreria di Galileo Galilei", in «Bullettino di bibliografia e di storia delle scienze matematiche e fisiche», XIX, 1886, pp. 219-293 and the subsequent appendixes of 1887 and 1896). Within the numerous research projects which our Institute has undertaken around the person and works of the Pisan scientist, some years ago the catalogue of Galileo's library, as drawn up by Favaro, has been downloaded into a database which offers the scholar the possibility to search by keyword, author, title, editor, or date just like other modern consultation systems. More than 300 works are now available in digital version. The page "Galilei Galileo", published in the 'Philosophical Libraries' site, gives access to the database and to the pdf file with the list of the texts.
