Scientific Itineraries in Tuscany

Description:	March 22, 2005 witnessed the launch of Itinerari Scientifici in Toscana ("Scientific Itineraries in Tuscany") an online multimedia application, created with the support of the Istituto Centrale per il Catalogo Unico delle Biblioteche Italiane e per le Informazione Bibliografiche (ICCU) and with the collaboration of the Department of Culture of the Regional Government of Tuscany. The application presents 763 records resulting from research conducted by Elena Fani, Francesca Romana Guglielmi, and Mara Miniati with the coordination of Graziano Magrini, documenting the sites of historical-scientific and technological interest in Tuscany. Each site, geographically referenced and categorized by thematic typologies, has a brief profile that provides the elements for a first historical-scientific reconstruction. The section reserved to the itineraries themselves presents a series of scientific themes (astronomy, botany, cartography, etc.) explored through sequences of sites documenting their historical evolution, as well as by means of several significant online resources. The "thematic" itineraries are joined by two "biographical" itineraries that analyse the sites associated with Galileo Galilei and Leonardo Ximenes.
