Description:	The proceedings of the "XI Colloquio Internazionale dell'Istituto per il Lessico Intellettuale Europeo e Storia delle Idee del CNR", which was organized in collaboration with the IMSS and which took place in Rome from January 8th-10th, have been published by Olschki: twenty-five contributions presented at this international colloquium, edited by Marco Veneziani, focusing on the evolution of the concept of machine and "machinism" from ancient to modern times, from its original primitive meaning of automation to the many complex contemporary ramifications which are evident in daily life, scientific and technological thought, the history of ideas, philosophy, politics, rhetoric, etc. Papers by: S.
