Homage to Felice Fontana

Area:
Museum
Start:
15 October 2005
End:
31 December 2005
Description:
In celebration of the bicentenary of the death of Gasparo Ferdinando Felice Fontana (1730-1805), the Museo Civico of Rovereto presents an exhibition on its premises about this important figure in 18th-century Italian scientific culture. "Homage to Felice Fontana" (October 15th-December 31st, 2005), curated by Renato Mazzolini and Marta Poggesi, is dedicated to the life and work of this scientist from Trento and will show the models and the instruments that he created for the Imperiale e Regio Museo di Fisica e Storia Naturale in Florence, founded in 1775 by Grand Duke Peter Leopold, and that are today preserved in the Museo della Specola and at the IMSS. The exhibition is combined with a complex didactic project (in conjunction with the 2005-2006 school year), which will guide students to experiment on their own, following Fontana's example, as well as a film series about the different scientific problems Fontana had to confront.
