The international conference is organized by the IMSS, the Dipartimento di Scienze dell'Educazione, the Facoltà di Scienze della Formazione of the University of Florence and the Société Internationale d'Histoire des Sciences et de la Philosophie Arabes et Islamiques, with the cooperation of the City of Florence and the Istituto di Studi Umanistici.
Almost 90 speakers from the best European and Mediterranean universities and cultural institutions will take part in the conference, whose aim is to trace out a balance of the studies relating to the transmission of science and philosophy in the Mediterranean world. In particular, the most advanced studies will be presented on the transmission of science and philosophy from Syriac into Arab and from Arab into Latin in the Latin world, starting from the great translations from Syriac into Arab during the 8th century and into Latin during the 12th century, with special reference to the Greek scientific texts by Euclid, Archimedes, Ptolemy, Diofant, Dioscorid, Apollonius and to the works of the philosophers (Plato, Aristoteles, Temistius, Simplicius).
