Models

Classical literary sources attest to the existence of instruments, machines and apparatus, some of which were made of transparent glass. The descriptions of these devices are often so detailed that we can understand their mechanism with relative precision.

Since archaeological finds have not yet confirmed the literary descriptions, 11 models have been reconstructed. These models show to which extent ancient philosophers of nature understood the experimental importance of transparent glass in the construction of instruments.
