At the initiative of the Cascina town administration and the Società Operaia [Labourers' Society] (founded in 1863 as a mutual aid society), the Museum was created through collaboration between the State Institute of Art and the Cooperative of the Permanent Exhibition of Furniture, with the objective of tracing and promoting the development of the ancient woodworking crafts central to the local economy. The Museum displays a collection of instruments, machines, drawings and materials used by woodworking craftsmen, collected and conserved for years by the Società Operaia.
