Nicolaus Copernicus (1473-1543)
De revolutionibus orbium cœlestium, Nuremberg, 1543
Florence, Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale, Magl. 5.9.132, pp. 9v-10r
A book that changed the world. Copernicus described a new conception of the universe with the Sun in its centre while the other planets, including the Earth, revolve around it. This marked the beginning of the radical transformation of astronomy which has come to be known as the "Copernican Revolution".
