Pinax with Dionysus appearing before Persephone

Clay, 490-480 B.C.
Locri Epizefiri, Mannella district, Sanctuary of Persephone
Reggio Calabria, Museo Nazionale, inv. 58729

This plaque, recomposed of nine fragments, represents Persephone enthroned, with a bundle of ears of corns and a rooster. Standing before her, Dionysus holds a kantharos and a grapevine tendril, attributes indicative of the god's association with wine.
