Born at Argenta (near Ferrara) in 1546, Aleotti worked for 20 years as architect and engineer to Duke Alfonso II d'Este at Ferrara. Inventor of theatrical machines, he studied the work of Heron and was the author of the first Italian translation of the Pneumatics.
