Herma of cupid

White marble, first half of 1st cent. A.D.
Pompeii, House of the Gilded Cupids
Soprintendenza Archeologica di Pompei, inv. 20361

This sculpture originally stood on a pillar. The eyes, made of glass paste, have been lost. The subject represents one of the multiform aspects of the Dionysian world appearing in garden ornamentation.
