Pan
Marble, late 1st cent. A.D. Pompeii, House of the Vettii Soprintendenza Archeologica di Pompei, inv. 53512
Found in 1895 in the kitchen of the house, the statue was probably part of the garden decoration. The head, on which the yellow colour of the hair could still be seen at the time of its discovery, had been carved separately, but there is no reason to doubt that it originally belonged to the rest of the body.
