Bound cupid
Luna marble, 1st cent. A.D. Pompeii, House of the Vettii Soprintendenza Archeologica di Pompei, inv. 53508
This sculpture, used as a fountain, stood on the western side of the garden, forming a pair with the other one of the same subject. The water pipe was concealed between the arm and the body. It is apparently a copy of the other cupid, of inferior quality, carved later by a less talented sculptor.
