Labrum

White marble, 1st cent. A.D.
Pompeii, provenance unknown
Soprintendenza Archeologica di Pompei, inv. 20626

This labrum must have been placed on a base along with a statue-fountain that directed the jet of water into a basin. Due to the absence of through holes in the basin and the column, the water overflowed, probably into a pool connected to the impluvium.
