Labrum

Bardiglio marble, 1st cent. A.D.
Pompeii, House of Fortune
Soprintendenza Archeologica di Pompei, inv. 87284

This labrum was found broken into several parts near a bronze statue-fountain portraying a cupid carrying a dolphin on his back. It served to receive the spray of water from the fountain overflowing from the base, to which it was probably connected by a lead pipe.
