Slab with floral motifs

White marble, first half of 1st cent. A.D.
Pompeii, Porta Stabia necropolis
Soprintendenza Archeologica di Pompei, inv. 87285

This slab is decorated with a frieze of acanthus branches forming circular plant volutes, within which are flowers of various species. The relief carving, recently found in the excavations conducted outside of Porta Stabia, probably formed part of the altar coping of a funerary monument.
