Sickle
Iron, 1st cent. A.D. Pompeii, House of the Menander Soprintendenza Archeologica di Pompei, inv. 20785
The sickle too comes from the group of implements found in the House of the Menander. Sickles existed in different shapes and sizes. The smallest ones were used to detach bunches of grapes. One of the largest was the harvest sickle, with a lightly serrated blade, while the smooth-bladed one was used for mowing.
