Figured frieze, First Style
Painted stucco, 3rd cent. B.C. Pompeii, House of the Naviglio Soprintendenza Archeologica di Pompei, inv. 87283
The frieze, perhaps part of a line of birds positioned face-to-face, is a fragment of wall decoration, exhibited here for the first time after having been found thanks to the stratigraphic excavations of the "Regio VI Project, 2003". It is important for the rare presence of figured elements, not commonly used in the painting of First Style.
