Centro di Documentazione del Territorio [Territorial Documentation Centre]
To collect and display the findings unearthed in the excavations at Rocca di Scarlino between 1979 and 1983, the Commune, in collaboration with the Department of Archaeology and the University of Siena, decided to set up a Territorial Documentation Centre. Opened to the public in 1994, the exhibition illustrates, in strictly scientific manner and according to the most advanced educational principles, the stages of population of the territory from the Bronze Age through the 17th century. Among the various objects displayed, visitors can admire such important pieces as thirteenth-century Spanish ceramics and a glazed ceramic jar containing 100 gold florins from the 14th century, coined in seven different mints and found amid the ruins of the priest's house.
