The Museum is part of the Castle Civilisation System of the Casentino Ecomuseum, and housed in the little Romanesque church of San Niccolò (today deconsecrated). Open since June 2000, its purpose is to illustrate, by means of panels, the history of castles in Casentino, and the life that revolved around them. It was indeed in the lee of these castles that hamlets, villages and markets were born and developed. The little medieval town where the museum is located is precisely one of these: a handful of houses at one time enclosed by walls of which the gate flanked by a tower survive today. As of the second half of the 15th century, the tower was surmounted by a clock, the clockwork of which has been replaced and is now housed inside the castle.
