Ecomuseo del Casentino - Museo dello Sci [Casentine Ecological Museum - Skiing Museum]
Established at the initiative of a group of skiers, the museum is divided into three sections. The first, dedicated to the traditions of life in the Casentine mountains, traces the fundamental stages through which skiing, already practiced for utilitarian purposes, became a popular sport near the end of the 19th century. The second deals instead with the development of skis from the early 20th century to our own day. Along with educational panels illustrating the evolution of materials and skiing techniques linked to great names such as Nansen, Kind and Zdarsky, the display includes numerous models of skis and bindings (from the first wicker bindings to those produced by Huitfield, Bilgeri, Eleffsen, Greesvig, etc.). The last section, centred on the history of skiing as a competitive sport, records the feats of the greatest ski champions on the worldwide level.
